The company implements an efficient and continuous management system that contributes to decarbonisation
El Pozo Alimentación has obtained energy efficiency certification based on the international standard ISO 50001:2018. With this recognition, the food company, present in millions of Spanish households, strengthens its commitment to sustainability.
ISO 50001 certifies the responsible energy management system that El Pozo Alimentación has integrated into its industrial activity. As part of the certification process, various measures have been implemented, including the use of renewable energies, such as the construction of the largest photovoltaic solar power plant in Spain for the production of electricity for the company’s own consumption, thereby reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and combating global warming, the implementation of new technologies and the development of innovation projects that integrate best practices to reduce emissions. This commitment represents an investment of over €35 million.
These initiatives have also been key to El Pozo Alimentación achieving an important milestone in the 2020-2025 period by reducing its carbon footprint by 25%. Its environmental plan, which already has an ISO 14001-based management system in place, includes other improvement objectives for the coming years that will allow it to move towards a more responsible and sustainable production model.
El Pozo Alimentación has been advised by specialist consultancy Konery in obtaining this certification. ISO 50001 is a voluntary standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It focuses on helping organisations to optimise their energy use through efficient and continuous management, contributing to decarbonisation.
