The ClearFarm research project will design a benchmark European platform to achieve more sustainable pork and dairy production.

The Grupo Fuertes companies, CEFUSA and eLPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN, together with the University of Murcia and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, are working on the ClearFarm project with the objective of scientifically measuring the level of farm animal well-being and achieve sustainable pork livestock and dairy production on a European scale.

Specifically, this innovative initiative will design a benchmark European platform to guarantee animal welfare throughout the livestock chain, providing information about it to both the members of the food industry chain and to the end consumers.

In an initial phase, CEFUSA and eLPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN will investigate a protocol to objectively measure the level of animal health and welfare through the non-invasive analysis of stress, inflammation and oxidation biomarkers at a physiological level. Afterwards, said analyses will be incorporated onto a digital platform which will be tested at different pork livestock holdings to validate its function and utility. Finally, the connected platform will use an algorithm to provide easy-to-understand information on the welfare of the animals adapted to each audience.

This project has a duration of 4 years, is financed by the European Commission’s prestigious Horizon 2020 programme, and has the participation of 14 institutions from 6 different countries.

Animal welfare, which continues to be a priority objective in food and livestock production, faces the significant challenge of developing and improving by means of a more objective, precise and modern system of evaluation, which, moreover, allows the most sustainable production possible to be ensured.

CEFUSA and eLPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN are committed to the safest and most environmentally respectful models and to applying the leading edge techniques to guarantee the safest and most sustainable solutions for the future of the livestock sector and the rural environment.
